Hi everyone! My name is Ohren! That's German for 'ears' because I have such big ears, haha! I'm a three year old neutered male and am up to date on vaccines and microchipped. My previously family gave me up, but my foster family has no idea why! They say I'm the sweetest boy they've ever met! And I'm a goofball! I still have a lot of energy for only being three years old, but am the biggest cuddle bug too! I guess I don't know how big I am (about 75lbs) because I like to sit right on top of you and give kisses. I'll even snuggle up in bed! I'd really like that wherever I go. My favoritist game is to play fetch. I love my balls but they always seem to fall apart so quick so make sure you have a lot of backups! When I'm restless or excited, I get kinda mouthy and will use my teeth to tug on your hands and stuff - I'm not trying to hurt you, but sometimes I don't realize how big those pearly whites are! Mom has been working with me on this and I calm down pretty quickly. I get along really well with my doggy foster brother. He's an alpha so he'll correct my inappropriate play when he needs to. We play tag and ruff house around the yard. I seem to get along with most dogs, but mom had this crazy puppy over for a visit and I wasn't super fond of him to begin. He was crrrraaazzzyyy and tried jumping all over me! Idk what his deal was, BOL! The only issue I have is when other dogs comes near my food! I don't like anyone to bother me when I'm eating and have let everyone know! So I really need an owner who can deal with my food guarding and ensure I have a safe place to eat. I don't seem to care about the water dish and will even share, but my food dish has to be put away. Because of this, I will need a home without children! Everyone in my home will need to understand that they have to be very careful around me during feeding times. Oh, oh! And speaking of food - I was a bit skinny when I came into the rescue so have been gaining weight but have some pounds to go. Right now mom is feeding me 3 cups twice a day! I love treats and take them gently out of your hand. I'll even sit pretty for you to get them. Even though I'm super friendly, I do like to be the protector of the home. I'll bark when someone comes to the house but quickly quite when I get some attention from the visitors. My previous owners said I was good with cats but my foster family hasn't tested that with me so we're just not too sure! Overall, I'm a healthy guy, but do have really itchy ears. My mom has me on a grain and chicken free diet to help with any food allergies. She gives me Benadryl on the days I seem to be extra scratchy. The vet has checked me out and I don't have any ear infections, so maybe it's seasonal! I know all the basic commands and correct very easily (except if I'm mad about someone being near my food). I know sit, stay, lay down, come, shake, no/down, bed time, kennel, outside/inside, and hungry. I'm crate trained, but can also be left to roam the house. I also walk really nicely on the leash. I'm super smart and definitely a people pleaser. My ideal home would be an active family with only a couple people as larger groups seem to overstimulate me. Visit www.gsdri.org to fill out an application and learn more about our adoption process. Our dogs are all fostered in volunteer homes. Meets and greets are only available by appointment after the application has been processed. All of our dogs are adopted as indoor house pets. No permanent outside runs or tie outs are allowed. Adoption fees: $350 - 0 to 6 months $325 - 7 to 12 months $300 - 1 to 5 years $250 - 6 years and older $200 - mixed breeds *BREED DISCLOSURE: Due to the fact that most of our adoptable dogs come from shelters, we can not guarantee their breed. We list the dog's breed as the one that best matches the physical appearance, temperament, and personality of the dog - in some cases it's purely a guess. (Less)

Hi everyone, my name is Max! I am a 2.5 year old German Shepherd and probably some sort of Hound mix. I'm an active boy with lots of energy to burn so I need a family that will give me a lot of exercise. I'm cool with car rides so maybe you can take me to the park for a run! I like to play really RUFF with my doggy friends so I would do best in a home with other young, high energy dogs that don't mind my style of play. (I'd be ok as an only dog too.) I get along well with the other dominant-neutral dogs that are my size in my foster home, however, I don't do well with small breeds. Annnddd I'm pretty reactive to cats so a home without cats would be best, hehe! I weigh about 95lbs now but could stand to gain some additional weight so I might knock little kids over. I like balls, and if you tire me out enough, I will relax and cuddle up next to you. I LOVE snuggling and getting attention from my people. I know the basic commands but would like a family who could continue my training. I walk well on a leash with a little pull. I do pretty good in my crate but will make a fuss sometimes. I have some nervous energy which can be displayed when I'm in my crate. Because of this, I probably need to be crated during the day so that I don't get into anything while you are gone. Having other dogs around seems to help me stay a bit calmer though! Because I am such a tall guy and an excellent jumper, I will need a home with a secure 5-6 foot fence. I have been known to sneak under a chain link fence before so a wood fence or very secure chain link fence is super important! I tend to bark at noises outside like thunder, fireworks, etc. so hopefully your neighbors won't mind - woops! :) Do I sound like the beset fit ever for you?! Please visit www.gsdri.org to fill out an application, learn more about the adoption process and fees, and view other dogs available through the German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Iowa. All GSDRI's dogs are adopted as indoor house pets. No permanent outside runs or tie outs are allowed. A fence is strongly encouraged. Every dog is spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm checked. (Less)
