Rescue Me ID: 17-01-11-00003Bailey (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi everyone! My name is Bailey and I'm a ball of puppy energy! I'll be one years old in, uhhh, February they call it?! I'm a sweet girl, but mom says I have a lot of learning to do! So let me tell ya all about this good stuff and then I can fill you in on what mom thinks! At 11 months old, I probably weigh around 60-65lbs (I was 58lbs last month). I'll probably top out around 75 or so. I'm a bit more petite than your average GSD - a bit shorter, but that makes me extra cute! Everyone says my markings are beautiful, and I have a personality to match! I love to cuddle (especially curling up next to you in bed at night) and LOVE to play! My ... (Read More)favoritest game ever is tug of war or wrestling with my brothers. Which reminds me, I have two foster brothers. One is an older grumpy guy. I pester him, but back away when he snaps at me. Buuuut then I keep coming back for more! Hahah it's fun for me! The other is 3 years old and enjoys my antics, but even he can get annoyed sometimes. I play ruff and think it would be so much fun to have another sibling in my forever home! Mom thinks I may end up being an alpha though, so probably best to place me with a neutral-to- submissive dog, and since females tend to butt heads, a male may be best - but I guess it just depends what your dog(s) is like! Not too sure how I'd do around cats. I've never been around those things but I bet they'd be super fun to chase ;) I am potty-trained, though when mom first got me I peed from excitement when she came home. I also used to have accidents in my kennel as I used to spend long hours in there before coming into foster care. But now I can go a normal workday without any accidents! When you come home, don't take time to greet me, just let me outside! It might take a week or two for me to learn your routine. It's best if you only put non-destructible toys in my kennel such as Kongs because I tend to tear up beds and stuffed animals. I know sit, lay down, and I can stay but not for too long yet! I pull pretty hard on a leash yet, and I know phrases like 'no, outside, hungry, bed time, kennel.' If I'm doing something bad (chewing or running off with something I shouldn't like socks or shoe!) I usually correct pretty easily, but mom says it's best to keep an eye on me! I'm still a puppy! I'm super smart though so it would be awesome if my forever family took me to training classes. Mom thinks classes (group or individual) would be helpful as I don't always listen very well and some structure and bonding could do me really well! So here's some stuff mom is making me tell you%BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD| I like to play this game (well, mom doesn't think it's a game) where I won't come inside all the time! Haha it's so fun! I'll bark so you come to the door but when you try to let me in I'll run off! If I get enough exercise, it's not a big deal and I'll come in. Majority of the time I want to be with my brothers so I'll follow them inside. But on these really cold nights, I just want to play, but mom won't let me stay outside for very long. I'm also a jumper! If I missed you, I'll jump. If I'm hungry, I'll jump. If I want something, I'll jump!! Mom has been working with me on this one, but my puppy energy gets the best of me sometimes! The best thing to do is to ask me to sit! Because of this, it's probably best that I'm in a home with children that can handle my disregard for their space - I'm thinking 12 or older. I came from a home with a 10 year old and loved her, but she got spooked by me jumping all over. Oh, oh! And mom wanted me to give you a tip - if I'm ever being overly rambunctious, especially right before bed time, rub my chest/belly. That calms me down really well ? This little trick becomes especially helpful when I'm feeling mouthy and vocal (play biting at your hands). Another thing that works really well to correct me is a spray bottle. So there you have it - the good, the bad, and the super cute! I'm a very smart girl and love to be by your side. Remember, I'm a puppy and have a solid 6 months to a year of maturing to do, but with adequate attention, exercise, and training, I could be the dog of your dreams. And you could be the family of mine! Doggy kissess, Bailey (Bailey will be available to go to her forever home after her spay on January 19.) Visit www.gsdri.org to fill out an application and learn more about our adoption process. Our dogs are all fostered in volunteer homes. Rescue Me ID: 16-06-28-00125Max (male)

Black and Tan Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi everyone, my name is Max! I am a 2.5 year old German Shepherd and probably some sort of Hound mix. I'm an active boy with lots of energy to burn so I need a family that will give me a lot of exercise. I'm cool with car rides so maybe you can take me to the park for a run! I like to play really RUFF with my doggy friends so I would do best in a home with other young, high energy dogs that don't mind my style of play. (I'd be ok as an only dog too.) I get along well with the other dominant-neutral dogs that are my size in my foster home, however, I don't do well with small breeds. Annnddd I'm pretty reactive to cats so a home without cats ... (Read More)would be best, hehe! I weigh about 95lbs now but could stand to gain some additional weight so I might knock little kids over. I like balls, and if you tire me out enough, I will relax and cuddle up next to you. I LOVE snuggling and getting attention from my people. I know the basic commands but would like a family who could continue my training. I walk well on a leash with a little pull. I do pretty good in my crate but will make a fuss sometimes. I have some nervous energy which can be displayed when I'm in my crate. Because of this, I probably need to be crated during the day so that I don't get into anything while you are gone. Having other dogs around seems to help me stay a bit calmer though! Because I am such a tall guy and an excellent jumper, I will need a home with a secure 5-6 foot fence. I have been known to sneak under a chain link fence before so a wood fence or very secure chain link fence is super important! I tend to bark at noises outside like thunder, fireworks, etc. so hopefully your neighbors won't mind - woops! :) Do I sound like the beset fit ever for you?! Please visit www.gsdri.org to fill out an application, learn more about the adoption process and fees, and view other dogs available through the German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Iowa. All GSDRI's dogs are adopted as indoor house pets. No permanent outside runs or tie outs are allowed. A fence is strongly encouraged. Every dog is spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm checked. (Less)
